IDA Power, through a wholly owned subsidiary, acquired the Lake Shore Power Station pursuant to a liability assumption agreement with Energy Harbor Generation LLC (EHG). The acquisition transaction requires IDA to take over the ownership and responsibility for the property while assuming all environmental liabilities associated with the facility.
The former Lake Shore Power Station was situated on a 61.9-acre lake-front parcel before the plant was demolished in 2017. Remaining structures (water-intake screen house, two sheet-pile walled ponds, and the NPDES treatment building are scheduled for demolition by 2028. The parcel is connected to Lake Erie through the water intake and discharge structures. The property is bound on the north by Interstate 90, on the east by E. 70th street, on the south by a switch yard (CEI) and Railroad lines (CSX Transportation, Inc., and Norfolk Southern Corporation). It is bound on the south, and west by the Horizon Science Academy Cleveland. The parcel has access to Dick Gardard Way (formerly S Marginal Dr.), E. 70th Street and E. 55th.
Existing uses in the area surrounding the site include shoreline parks to the north, northeast and east; light and heavy industrial to the south; education and commercial office space to the west; and residential and retail uses several blocks south of the site. IDA Power is evaluating potential redevelopment options for the property which may include commercial/industrial uses such as ground-mounted solar facilities; battery energy storage facilities; telecom or data centers; and retail, entertainment, residential and/or a mixed-use consisting of residential and commercial development.
